Custom Field Definitions

Define data types, validation, duplicate checks, and field masking for every lead field - build the exact data structure your business needs.

Define exactly the data you need to collect

Every vertical needs different fields, and every field needs its own rules. Custom Field Definitions let you build the exact data structure your business runs on - with the data type, presentation, validation, and security each field requires - instead of forcing every lead into a generic template.

Choose a data type

Each field definition stores one of the following types, so bad data never makes it into your lead base:

  • Boolean - a simple true/false value.
  • Date - accepts only valid dates.
  • Date/Time - accepts only valid dates and times.
  • Decimal - accepts only valid decimal numbers.
  • Number - whole numbers only.
  • String - any characters.

Control how the field behaves

  • Dynamic data controls - present the field as a checkbox, drop-down, multi-select drop-down, file upload, or plain text box on your lead forms. See Dynamic Data Controls for the full list.
  • Field size - cap the number of characters a field is allowed to store.
  • Required - decide which fields a vendor must pass or an applicant must complete on your lead forms.
  • Default values - give an optional field a fallback value, such as "Not Answered" or "N/A", so downstream reporting and delivery never see a blank.
  • Sample values - show vendors the format you expect, and use the same samples to test client campaigns quickly.

Validate and deduplicate at the point of entry

  • Validation - enforce correct formatting, such as a properly structured email address or phone number, before data reaches you from a vendor or a web form.
  • Duplicate checking - compare incoming leads against your existing lead base by phone number, email address, Social Security number, HICN, or any other field you choose, so you never pay for the same lead twice.

Mask sensitive data

For fields that collect personally identifiable information, turn on masking to hide part or all of the value - the first or last 2, 4, or 6 characters, or the entire value - across every portal in Lead Capsule. The underlying data stays intact for processing; only the displayed value is protected.
